New Rock of Faith Church, Inc. was organized on July 16, 1984. At that time, only seven people were present (Bro. Joseph A. Thomas, Jr. & Sis. Betty W. Thomas, Bro. Lowell Joseph, Sis. Mary Davis, Bro. L.C. Jack, Sis. Theresa Jack, and Sis. Lee Esther Blaney). The ministry was named as such on that very same night with Bro. Joseph A. Thomas, Jr. becoming its first pastor of the ministry.
On July 23, 1984, the ministry rented and moved to the building at 1413 Martha Street. The building was purchased in February 1987. As membership continued to grow, the church building itself underwent several building renovations under the leadership of Pastor Thomas along with the help of its members and close friends from 1994-2005. The church’s gym/ multipurpose building was purchased in 2010 and underwent major renovations as well.
Pastor Thomas was elevated to the office of Bishop, Apostle, and Chief Apostle over the years. He also helped organize the Convention of the Covenant Churches where he was elevated as the Presiding Prelate of the organization in 2016. Chief Apostle Joseph A. Thomas Jr. was called into eternal rest in March 2019. His youngest son, Dr. Joshua Thomas was elected pastor six months later.
Under Dr. Thomas’ new leadership, the church continues to experience growth and spiritual transformation. The church is currently undergoing an expansion phase as a result from Hurricanes Laura & Delta 2020.
In 2021, the church officially help launched and founded the New Rock of Faith Community Foundation (dba The R.O.C.K. Foundation) an independent comprehensive outreach organization with the sole purpose of providing assistance and resources to the community (includes, but not limited to, nursing homes, homeless shelter, school/ educational supplies, food pantry, and medical assistance).
Both the ministry and outreach organization continue to enjoy the growth, success, and increasing networks. We also continue to become a beacon of light unto the community with a passionate call to lead, evangelize, assimilate, and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ until He returns.
New Rock continues to break the barriers, thrive, and “D.R.I.V.E.” by way of the Holy Spirit!
